The Stone Forest is located approximately 120km east of Kunming. The limestone spires that make up the Stone Forest spring from the earth like stalagmites. Many of them resemble great trunks of petrified trees, thus creating the illusion of a forest made of stone. Since 2007 the Stone Forest has been a UNESCO world heritage site.
Visitors can wander through the site and marvel at the sheer variety of rock formations some of which have been named after the animal, plant or person that they resemble. It is recommended to spend at least 2 hours here to make the most of your visit.
