Back when it was China's busiest port town, Guangzhou was known for its "qilou" or arcade-style houses and shops. Tucked away amidst these old streets are a number of unique historic buildings, including Cantonese Opera guild halls, ancient storefronts, and even the birthplace of actor Bruce Lee. A walk along En Ning Road and Shangxiajiu Pedestrian Street takes in some of the best surviving architecture of old Guangzhou. This area also has a good smattering of unique souvenir shopping.
