Diecai Hill, also known as Folded Brocade Hill, is located in downtown Guilin just beside the Li River, and is a good option for a moderate hike and a bird's-eye view of the Li River and the city from above.
Diecai Hill's main peak, Bright Moon Peak, is only around 70 meters high but the ascent includes many stairs and makes for a mildly strenuous climb. Once you reach the top of the peak, you will be rewarded with lovely panoramic views of the Li River and the gorgeous karst hills that surround the city of Guilin. If weather is clear, you can also appreciate beautiful sunrise or sunset views from the top of the hill.
Midway along the path up the hill, you will come to the Wind Cave, so-named because of the cool breeze that blows through it all year. The Wind Cave features many historic inscriptions on its walls and merits a visit if you are interested in Chinese calligraphy and history.
Near the cave, there is a granite slide, which leads from the top of the hill down to the bottom for an extra charge and is a popular activity for children. Of course, tired adults who don't want to hike back down the hill can take the slide too.
Opening hours: 6:00am to 6:30pm (April to November) / 7:00am to 6:00pm (December to March)
Entrance fee: 32 RMB
