Pingyao is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and for good reason. This stunning walled city has been impeccably well preserved and contains some of China's most fascinating historical buildings.
After stepping off the bullet train from Beijing, you'll first have a chance to explore Pingyao's ancient city walls. Inside the city walls, pedestrians rule; the absence of cars means a stroll around the city streets is a much calmer and more laid-back experience than walking anywhere else in China!
Once you have a ticket for the city you can visit many of its most popular historical sights, including the Confucian Temple and the Ancient County Government Office. History fanatics will also love the Rishengchang Exchange Shop, considered the first draft bank in China's history.
Your guided tour in Pingyao will include visits to the underground military complex of Zhangbi Castle and Shuanglin Temple with its beautiful Buddhist statues. Your visit will also feature lots of delicious meals that showcase the unique flavors of Shanxi cuisine.
